我們受邀到一個遠離塵世的山中別館作客，主人卻在當晚慘遭殺害，殺人魔就在受邀的賓客中。

為了確保自身的安全，以及配合尚未抵達現場的警方辦案，我們只得在這裡待到天亮。
如果什麼都不做的話，殺人魔一定會繼續殺害其他賓客。

和所有的賓客交談，並且投票決定，把有嫌疑的人關在地下室的鍋爐室裡，直到警方出現。
大家搜集主人遇害前目擊的情況，並進行討論與推理，案情能否水落石出，逮住真正的殺人魔。

玩家輪流秘密地決定自己的角色，從其他玩家傳來的1張角色牌以及自己從角色牌庫頂抽到的1張角色牌中，選擇一張作為自己的角色，將剩下的那張傳給任意一位尚未決定角色的玩家。
重複此步驟，直到所有玩家都決定角色為止。

所有玩家針對哪張角色牌曾去到哪位玩家手裡(地點)，後來又去了哪裡(地點)這些目擊情報進行討論,然後推論殺人魔的所在位置。
不過，選擇「殺人魔」以及「共犯」的玩家絕對不會洩漏自己的真實身分,他們可能會捏造虛假的目擊情報，把焦點轉向其他無辜的人。
在討論後進行投票，票數最高的玩家若是殺人魔，殺人魔與共犯失敗，其他所有玩家獲勝；票數最高的玩家若非殺人魔,殺人魔與共犯獲勝，其他所有玩家失敗。
